Less down 3 weeks to the general elections, over 500 members of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), led by it’s Chairman, Mr. Smart Olonimoyo, on Wednesday, defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Idanre Local Government of Ondo State.
Some members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), also defected to the opposition PDP.
The defectors said there was no need for Idanre Local Government to dissipate energy but instead, should work together at this point for the success of all PDP candidates at the polls.
Mr. Olonimoyo who spoke on behalf of the defectors said apart from the fact that PDP parades the best candidate, the APC has brought untold hardships to Nigerians which has necessitated the need to vote them out and not allow the hardships to linger beyond 2019, advising all the sons and daughters of Idanre Local Government to vote for their son, and not trade away the opportunity of producing the next Senator of Ondo Central ahead of the February 16, general election.
Receiving the defectors on behalf of PDP at the Local Government Party Secretariat, Mr. Bola Ogunmolu, PDP chairman in Idanre Local Government, said all the defectors will enjoy equal rights with the old members.
He assured them of a level playing ground, adding that in PDP, there is room for all.
