OSOPADEC Chairman’s Driver Shot, Car Snatched in Akure

The driver attached to the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (OSOPADEC), Samuel Bernard was shot during an armed robbery attack on Monday evening in Akure.

Godwin Ewata, Osopadec’s Information Officer, told Starnews NG that Bernard had just returned from accompanying the chairman on official engagements at the riverine areas of the state.

According to him, shortly after the official trip, Bernard dropped off the official vehicle and drove home with his personal car where he was ambushed by armed assailants.

Ewata explained that the robbers shot Bernard and inflicted a machete injury to his head before seizing his vehicle.

“They also took the keys to the chairman’s car, which Bernard had kept beside him, along with some important documents.

“Fortunately, the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device. Alerted by Bernard’s cries, community members mobilised quickly, pursued the attackers, and recovered the stolen car along with the keys and documents.

“Bernard was rushed to the State General Hospital, where he underwent an X-ray and received treatment.”

Ewata confirmed that he is now in stable condition and recuperating.

The incident has heightened concerns about security in Akure, though Ewata praised the community for their prompt action in recovering the stolen property. Investigations by local security operatives are ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.
