Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has suggested that Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, is keen on joining Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mikel, who previously played for Chelsea as a midfielder, made this statement while speaking at the Web Summit Qatar via Calciomercato.com.

Osimhen is expected to depart Napoli at the end of the season, having recently indicated that he has already made a decision regarding his next move.

The 25-year-old forward renewed his contract with Napoli in December, which reportedly includes a release clause ranging from €120-130m.

Osimhen has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, with several clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United reportedly interested in securing his services.

Speaking further on the links between Osimhen and Chelsea, Mikel said, “I think there is genuine interest on both sides. I’m convinced that Victor wants to come to Chelsea, obviously he wants to follow in my footsteps and the Nigerian players who played for Chelsea, such as Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro…”

Obi Mikel then discussed the other clubs interested in signing Osimhen this summer.

“He also has many clubs interested in him, such as PSG, Manchester United, but I am pushing, sending him messages, trying to make sure that there is only one club in his mind: the Blues!”
