The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ọjájá II), has charged the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, on the progress and development of the Ile-Ife Kingdom.

Ooni said this at his royal palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday, during a courtesy visit by Omisore, in company with some notable politicians and supporters of the APC.

He appreciated God for remembering Ile-Ife for good things, especially elevating an Ile-Ife son to the status of the National Secretary of the ruling party.

“It has been long since an indigene is privileged to hold a tangible position at the national level.

Ile-Ife loves you as you can see them turning out in their large numbers to welcome you to your home, I want to urge you to remember the way people of the source voted for you when you contested as governorship candidate then and today to welcome you.

“I beseech you to reciprocate the love towards them by benefitting them immensely with your post,” the traditional ruler admonished.

The royal father appealed to him to embrace his friends and enemies now that he has attained the position, saying that such a position would pave the way for him to attain greater levels in life.Oba Ogunwusi urged him to use all in his capacity to serve Ile-Ife, Osun State and Nigeria at large.

Ooni said those seeking party offices and portfolios must go through Omisore – and this would demand that he should operate fairly and effectively to enable him to justify his actions at the end of his tenure.

Omisore, who was also a former Deputy Governor of Osun, thanked God for making the day a reality.

He commended Ooni for being supportive and for his fatherly role played from inception, saying that it showed truly that Ooni is a chosen Royal Father from the Almighty.

He said it was compulsory for him to come and show appreciation to his father – the Ooni, and receive his blessings from the stool before formally assuming office, as a hallmark of reverence and symbolic of a propitious undertaking ahead.

He commended the efforts of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun; former Gov. of Lagos State, Sen. Bola Tinubu; former Gov. of Osun, Alhaji Bisi Akande, and other South-West governors, saying their contributions to governance could not be overemphasised.

The national secretary of the party used the medium to solicit the votes of every supporter of the party – for Gov. Oyetola in his quest for a second term and urged the electorate to vote en masse for him and the party during the July 16 gubernatorial election – for them to enjoy more dividends of democracy. Furthermore, the Obalufe of Ile-Ife Kingdom, Oba Idowu Adediwura, tasked Omisore to allow the people of the ancient-now-modern city to regal his tenure, adding that people were earnestly waiting for what would come out of his table.

Also, the Lowa Adimula of Ile-Ife Kingdom, High Chief Adeyeye Adekola, prayed for more wisdom and successful tenure for the national secretary.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that traditional rulers, chiefs, local government chairmen, commissioners, special advisers, women leaders, and politicians, among others, attended the event at the palace of Ooni.

FRSC seizes 222 trailers conveying 3,169 passengers

FRSC seizes 222 trailers conveying 3,169 passengers The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) inter-agency task force has apprehended 222 trailers transporting 3,169 passengers across Niger, Bauchi, Taraba, and Kaduna states. The task force, established to curb the transportation of passengers alongside goods, aims to reduce road traffic accidents and associated casualties caused by the reckless conduct of trailer drivers. Corps Marshal Dauda Ali-Biu announced during a press briefing in Abuja that the initiative involves collaboration with various transport unions, security agencies, and traffic management authorities. “As part of the operations, the JTF dropped over 2,440 passengers who were mandated to take alternative vehicles designed for conveying passengers. “Since the commencement of the JTF on March 23, the monster of road traffic crashes involving trailers and the fatalities that come with them have been adequately tamed and the situation arrested on all fronts,” he said. Mr Ali-Biu added that the corps had gone a step further by prosecuting recalcitrant trailer drivers aside the conventional enforcement of traffic regulations. This, he said, was done through mobile courts in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT. “Subsequently, more drastic measures, including suspension and withdrawal of the national driver’s licence, will be carried out. “Permit me to reiterate at this critical moment that, on our part, as an agency of government charged with road safety supervision, we have resolved to continue in our strive to make the nation’s highways safe. “Part of our resolve is to consolidate on the gains recorded so far through the strategic combat operations of the joint task force. “We have decided to sustain the tempo by extending the operations of the JTF to other critical corridors across the nation. “The essence of this extension is to give it a holistic approach,” the corps marshal said.
