One killed, three injured in Osun truck accident

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and injuries to three others in a tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday in Ikirun.

The deceased, identified as Usman Mohammed, was reportedly standing by the roadside near Oja Oba — a busy market along the Ikirun–Iree–Ila Road — when a granite-laden truck lost control and rammed into him.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck suffered a brake failure while approaching the market area. “The truck hit a motorcyclist before veering into a nearby shop. Four people were involved in total — one died on the spot while three others sustained varying degrees of injury,” Ojelabi said.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Ojelabi urged motorists, particularly heavy-duty truck drivers, to exercise extreme caution, especially in congested market zones, to prevent avoidable tragedies.

The police assured residents of their commitment to enforcing traffic safety regulations across the state.
