One dead, three rescued following building collapse in Lagos

Tragedy struck in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Sunday afternoon when a one-storey building under construction at Idi Araba suddenly collapsed around 3:30 pm.

According to Ibrahim Farinloye, coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Territorial Office, one construction worker was found dead beneath the debris, while three others were rescued alive.

“Search and rescue efforts are ongoing,” Farinloye confirmed in a statement.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Shakiru Amodu, also verified the death of the recovered victim, describing him as an adult male.

Margaret Adeseye, director of the fire service, added that the incident occurred at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque.

She stated that the rescue teams included personnel from the Isolo Fire Station, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police.

Three men were pulled out from the rubble with injuries of varying severity and received initial treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
