Applicants for teaching positions in Ondo State public schools are growing frustrated as the recruitment process, which started in April 2024, remains incomplete after ten months.
The recruitment exercise, which aimed to hire 2,000 teachers for primary and secondary schools, attracted 63,000 applicants.
According to Punch, after an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) in May, successful candidates proceeded to physical screenings between June and August.
However, since then, there has been no official update on the final selection list or appointment letters.
Many applicants had expected the government to release the names of successful candidates before the November 16, 2024, governorship election, where Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was a candidate.
Others hoped the process would be completed before the start of the new school term. With no updates, some candidates have moved on to other jobs, both within and outside the state.
The recruitment was approved in March 2024 to address the shortage of teachers in Ondo’s public schools.
The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) coordinated the process, advertising vacancies in April and conducting screenings in different zones of the state.
A government spokesperson has assured that the recruitment process will be completed before the end of the current quarter.
However, applicants remain anxious, waiting for official confirmation of their employment.
