Ondo Rep disowns Jegede’s Endorsement by his party for Akeredolu

  • Also, YPP kicks, denies Jegede’s endorsement

Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), representing Ifedore/Idanre federal constituency of Ondo State at the Federal House of Representatives, has disowned the endorsement of Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) by his party to support Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Starnews Nigeria can report.

Starnews Nigeria learnt that Adefisoye openly distanced himself from the decision of his party to support Governor Akeredolu of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election in Ondo State in Idanre on Monday while addressing his crop of supporters.

The Vanguard had reported that barely five days to the Ondo governorship election, 11 of the 17 registered political parties in the state have merged and collapsed their structure to support the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede.

Their spokesperson who is the state chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Dele Ogunbameru said at the PDP state secretariat in Akure that ” the steps became necessary to ensure victory for PDP and Jegede in the election.

The parties include Accord party, Social Democratic Party SDP, African Democratic Congress, ADC, All People’s Party (APP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), National Resistance Movement (NRM), Labour Party (LP), Young Progressive Party YPP, African Action Congress (AAC) Party.

But Adefioye, a serving lawmaker on the platform of the SDP said he would work for the reelection of Akeredolu but will not decamp to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

In a similar development, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party YPP, Mr Dotun Ojon, has also denied the endorsement of Jegede by his party, YPP.

In a statement on Monday, the YPP wrote: ”The attention of my Party, the Young Progressives Party has been drawn to a news item making the rounds that the party has collapsed its structure for the PDP.”

”This is a shock that Mr. Eyitayo Jegede considering his mien could go to the extent of telling this public lie to gain acceptance at the expense of the sweat and hardwork of others.

”The Young Progressives Party in Ondo State is headed by its Chairman, Pastor Olubanji Bali.

”It is therefore surprising that the PDP could go to the extent of using biro to write the name of a non existent individual and lie to the public that such individual is representing the Young Progressives Party.

”Just on Sunday, the public was informed that 10 political parties were planning something like this and how it became 11 overnight with our Party the Young Progressives Party being mentioned is a sign that truly we have done our little best and people want to associate with us.

”It has become clear that PDP and its Candidate are not different from the people they criticise and I am saddened that Mr. Eyitayo Jegede who was jumping up and down in a debate just this weekend and painting himself in moral colour could approve this public lie that is capable of destroying another soul.

”It is a shame. I must state without shame that my entire life has been invested in this and thinking that I will collapse my structure should be the last thing in the mind of anyone.

”We kindly call on our supporters to disregard this and vote for the Young Progressives Party in the coming election,” the statement said.
