The Ondo State Police Command has arrested five members of a notorious armed robbery gang that allegedly stole a white DAF truck in Akure and moved it across several northern states before they were apprehended.
The suspects were arrested in a coordinated operation by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad following a petition over the stolen truck submitted to the Commissioner of Police on May 23, 2025.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the gang had on February 8, 2023, invaded Dollar Boys Global Investment along the Akure/Owo expressway. They reportedly overpowered security personnel, broke into the premises, and made away with a white DAF truck with registration number T94121 and chassis number XLRTE85COF572200, among other valuables.
Ayanlade explained that after receiving the petition, police detectives swung into action, tracing the stolen vehicle to Brinni Kudu in Jigawa State. The operation subsequently led to the arrest of one suspect in Jigawa, two more in Kano, and the remaining two in Sokoto.
He said the suspects are part of a larger syndicate involved in armed robbery and illegal sale of stolen trucks. To avoid detection, the gang reportedly altered the truck’s registration details and other identifiers before attempting to sell it off.
The recovered DAF truck has since been taken into custody, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend any remaining members of the gang.
DSP Ayanlade assured residents of Ondo State that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and will not relent in its efforts to bring criminals to justice, regardless of where they may flee.
