Ondo PDP Labels 2025 Budget as ‘Budget of Looting’

…Calls EFCC to Probe Financial Misappropriation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticised the 2025 Appropriation Act signed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, describing it as a “Budget of Looting.”

This is in sharp contrast to the governor’s designation of the budget as a “Budget of Recovery.”

In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, the PDP raised concerns over what it termed dubious allocations in the N698 billion budget.

One of the contentious provisions is the N11.5 billion allocated to the Ministry of Finance as “security vote,” an allocation the PDP claims defies logic, especially as it is separate from the governor’s monthly security vote under the same sub-head.

“There are other outrageous allocations such as N200 million to House of Assembly members and N280 million to the Speaker of the Ondo State Assembly as phone expenses,” the statement noted, adding that such provisions do not serve the interests of the state.

The PDP also criticised the allocation of N77.024 billion to education and N46.016 billion to healthcare, arguing that these figures are insufficient for critical sectors.

The party claimed that the government, which has been in office for over a year, has focused more on looting public funds than on driving meaningful development.

“There is nowhere in the world where the people’s monies are so stolen with official stamp in this reckless manner,” the statement read.

The PDP further called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the alleged financial misappropriation in the 2025 budget.

“No state can make progress if those entrusted with the people’s funds are not accountable but use underhand tactics to steal,” the party stated.
