The Ondo State Government has dismissed public apprehension following the circulation of a leaked memo from the Department of State Services (DSS) warning of a possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said there was no cause for panic as the government was already working closely with relevant security agencies to forestall any security breach.
He explained that the leaked memo, addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, was one of the routine intelligence communications exchanged among security bodies as part of efforts to prevent potential threats.
According to Ajanaku, such intelligence assessments are common practice and form part of coordinated security operations aimed at maintaining law and order.
“The public should note that intelligence reports of this nature are regularly shared among security agencies and the government. They serve as early warnings to ensure that necessary preventive measures are put in place,” he said.
He assured that the government and security agencies had already taken steps in response to the alert and were working round the clock to safeguard lives and property.
“The government is acting on all security advisories and has strengthened surveillance, especially in border communities. There is therefore no need for fear or panic,” Ajanaku stated.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with security personnel, adding that the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remained committed to keeping Ondo State safe and peaceful.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa is in constant communication with the heads of all security agencies in the state. Every necessary measure is being taken to prevent any form of attack. Residents are advised to go about their normal activities and report any suspicious movement to the nearest security post,” the statement added.
Ajanaku cautioned the public against spreading unverified information that could heighten tension, reiterating that Ondo remains one of the most secure states in the country.
