Ondo APC Urges Arrest of Killers Behind Party Ward Chairman’s Death

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called on security agencies to urgently track down and prosecute those responsible for the murder of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the chairman of Ward 5 in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area.

Adepoyigi was abducted last week while on his way to his farm along the Ifon-Owo Road. He was later killed by his captors despite his family reportedly raising ₦5 million after being initially confronted with a ₦100 million ransom demand.

According to reports, the abductors detained two individuals who had delivered the ransom and later demanded an additional ₦30 million. Eventually, those two were freed, but Adepoyigi was killed.

Reacting to the incident, APC State Chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, expressed sorrow and outrage in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro. He called for swift intervention from law enforcement.

“The reported abduction and subsequent murder of Mr. Adepoyigi is deeply troubling and heartbreaking. While awaiting full confirmation from the security agencies, we expect decisive and immediate action,” the statement read.

The party emphasized the need for enhanced security surveillance, particularly in forested areas known to harbor criminal gangs. It urged security operatives to act quickly to dismantle hideouts and restore peace.

“Our people deserve protection from such criminality. It is essential that authorities take decisive steps to end this menace,” the APC added.

Chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr. Clement Ojo, who confirmed the killing, described the incident as devastating and highlighted the growing insecurity in the area, saying even relatively safe places are now under threat.

“Though we’re relieved the two others were released, the murder of Mr. Adepoyigi is a huge loss. We can no longer guarantee the safety of our residents, and urgent action is needed,” he stated.

He praised the late APC ward chairman for his unwavering loyalty and dedication to grassroots development, saying his efforts will not be forgotten.
