Two personnel of the Ondo State Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, have been arrested for allegedly stealing cocoa pods in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Ajayi Adebusuyi (45) and Oluwadare Olubodun (42), were reportedly caught red-handed inside a cocoa farm during a routine inspection along Gbalegi Camp, Idanre.
It was gathered that the farm caretaker, Friday Abbah, had set a trap after repeated incidents of cocoa theft.
The two officers were allegedly apprehended while harvesting pods, which were later recovered as exhibits.
Local residentsr immediately handed the suspects over to the police at the Idanre divisional headquarters.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the arrests followed several complaints by farm managers in the area.
According to him, investigators discovered heaps of empty cocoa pods on the farm, indicating ongoing thefts.
He added that the suspects are now in custody and that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
