Okpebholo Launches Campaign for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election in Edo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially kicked off the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made during a visit by Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, who recently switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osamwonyi, representing Uhunmwonde Constituency and serving on the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, was welcomed into the APC fold by the party’s state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, before being introduced to Governor Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City.

Governor Okpebholo praised Osamwonyi for his decision, noting that it signaled growing confidence in the APC and his leadership. He also indicated that more politicians from other parties were expected to join the APC in the coming months.

During his address, Okpebholo reassured the new members of the party that they would receive full support and inclusion in the efforts to drive the state’s progress. He particularly emphasized Uhunmwonde’s importance, expressing his commitment to collaborating with Osamwonyi and others to deliver further development to the region.

The governor also seized the moment to galvanize support for President Tinubu’s second term, revealing that campaign activities for the 2027 elections were already underway in the state.

APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe highlighted that Osamwonyi’s defection had bolstered the party, giving it a majority in the State House of Assembly. He attributed the move to the achievements of Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, which he said had earned the trust of many politicians in the state.

For his part, Osamwonyi explained that his decision to leave the PDP stemmed from internal disagreements within the party and his admiration for the governor’s developmental initiatives. He described his return to the APC as a “homecoming” and expressed his determination to ensure that his constituents benefit from the state government’s ongoing and future projects, many of which are outlined in the state’s budget.
