The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has shut down several petrol stations in Ogun State for short-changing customers.
The operation, which took place in Sagamu and Abeokuta, targeted filling stations that were under-dispensing fuel.
During the inspection, Ogun State Coordinator of NMDPRA, Akinyemi Atilola, stated that the move was necessary to protect consumers and ensure they get the correct quantity of fuel for their money.
He warned that any station found engaging in such fraudulent practices would face strict penalties.
He emphasized that the regulatory body will continue monitoring fuel stations across the state to identify and sanction violators.
He also urged station owners to follow the law, reminding them that those caught cheating customers will not be spared.
With fuel prices already high, consumers have been struggling to afford petrol, making it even more important for them to receive exactly what they pay for.
Authorities assured the public that more inspections will be carried out to prevent further exploitation.
