The Ogun State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of a 7-year-old girl from Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, who had been reported missing. The rescue operation was led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and coordinated by the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo.
According to Vanguard, in a statement issued on Sunday evening by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, it was revealed that the girl was found in Ayetoro, Ogun State, and that all suspects involved in the abduction have been arrested. The operation was described as a swift, intelligence-driven effort by the police.
“Through a covert operation led by CP Lanre Ogunlowo, the missing girl from Ota was located in Ayetoro, Ogun State, and all suspects have been apprehended,” the statement read.
The police assured the public that more details on the operation, the suspects, and the abduction itself would be shared in an upcoming press briefing scheduled for the next day.
The police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The girl, identified as Akinde, had been abducted last week in Sango-Ota, sparking widespread concern. The police confirmed the abduction but dismissed allegations that officers had requested N40,000 from the complainant to process the case.
In addition, the police acknowledged that the officer who first received the complaint acted unprofessionally by not promptly escalating the matter to the Divisional Police Officer. Disciplinary action has been taken against the officers involved in mishandling the case.
