Ogun Police Arrest Man for Exhuming and Beheading Corpse for Rituals

The Ogun State Police Command has detained a man for allegedly exhuming and beheading a body in the Car Wash area of the state for ritualistic purposes.

In a phone interview with the Punch correspondent on Tuesday, the command’s public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the suspect, Lekan Akinyemi, was arrested on Monday after a resident reported suspicious activity near his father’s grave.

Nojeem Balogun, the resident, reported that he discovered his father’s tomb had been disturbed and the head of the corpse had been severed.

Odutola stated that agents from the Adatan Division promptly acted on the report and apprehended Akinyemi.

“Nojeem Balogun, residing near Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, visited the police station and reported that on June 23, 2024, at about 0800hrs, one of his siblings alerted him to unusual activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta,” Odutola said. “Upon inspection, he found that their father’s head had been removed. Further inquiries led to the identification of Lekan Akinyemi, who was caught red-handed as the perpetrator.”

Akinyemi was apprehended at the scene, and the case will be transferred to the Anti-Robbery unit for further investigation before being handed over to the State CID.

Odutola assured the public that the suspect would face legal action once the investigation is completed and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.
