Auga-Akoko transformed into a vibrant hub of joy and celebration on Friday, as dignitaries, traditional rulers, and party loyalists gathered to honour the 60th birthday of Hon. Prince Bode Obanla. The air was filled with laughter, music, and the rich aroma of delicious local delicacies that added to the festive atmosphere.
As the Chairman of the Day, the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, took to the podium, he emphasised that this celebration was more than just a birthday—it was a tribute to character, loyalty, and the enduring bonds of friendship. “Anyone who does not value relationships does not understand life. No matter the height you attain, relationships matter,” he remarked, highlighting the importance of camaraderie beyond the political sphere.
Dressed in stunning agbada, the traditional cloak that symbolises nobility, many dignitaries added a touch of cultural flair to the event, embodying the spirit of unity and celebration. The sight of these vibrant outfits mingling with the joyous atmosphere created a memorable backdrop for the festivities.
Poroye, who has enjoyed a close friendship with the celebrant for over 20 years, noted that “politics should never destroy friendships because interests may change, but relationships should endure.” His heartfelt words resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the significance of genuine connections in public life.
The celebration included remarks from notable figures, including Engineer Ade Adetimehin, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State. He hailed Obanla as a man of principle and integrity whose steadfast commitment has fortified the party since his defection.
Hon. Victor Olabimtan, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), also took the stage, offering prayers for long life and continued relevance for Obanla. His words reflected the collective hopes of all present, wishing the celebrant a future filled with success and happiness.
A heartfelt goodwill message from the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was delivered by CC Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, JP, the Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). He described Obanla as a trusted friend and confidant, praying that his later years would be even more fulfilling than the earlier ones.
