The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State has captured a notorious Boko Haram member, Isiah Jafaru, also known as Nabida, following a targeted operation in Iloro Ekiti.
The suspect, a high-ranking figure within the terrorist group, had reportedly been evading arrest after fleeing military operations in the Northeast.
SC Afolabi Tolulope, the NSCDC spokesperson, confirmed the arrest, stating that Jafaru’s suspicious activities in the area prompted a swift response from operatives. Further investigation revealed that other members of the group had dispersed across the state.
While presenting the suspect, State Commandant Dr. Sosina Paul commended the efforts of the command’s Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Unit in preventing the group’s regrouping in Ekiti. He emphasized that the NSCDC would maintain collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safety of the state, particularly during the festive season.
Dr. Sosina also announced that Jafaru would be handed over to the Department of State Security Service (DSS) for further interrogation. He urged residents to stay vigilant, know their neighbours, and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
Additionally, the Commandant advised traditional leaders and property owners to scrutinize individuals using their lands, particularly in secluded or forested areas. He assured the public of NSCDC’s commitment to protecting lives, public assets, and infrastructure through robust intelligence gathering and collaboration with communities.
The arrest underscores the importance of collective efforts in combating terrorism and safeguarding national security.
