The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Ilya Damagum, has declared that no zonal election was conducted in the South-South region.
Damagum maintained that a substantive zonal executive could not be in place as the tenure of the previous executive expired on March 9, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Damagun’s Special Adviser on Media, Bisi Ezekiel, during the inauguration of the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Damagum firmly stated that no election had been conducted in the zone.
“There was no election in the South-South region as far as the party is concerned. The tenure of the executive has expired, and the National Working Committee found it necessary to constitute a caretaker committee because our constitution does not allow a vacuum,” he said.
He charged the newly inaugurated caretaker committee, led by Chief Emman Ogidi, to approach their assignment with a sense of responsibility, ensuring fairness and diligence in executing their duties.
Damagum expressed confidence in the PDP’s resurgence, assuring Nigerians that the party remains formidable with the widest political structure across the 774 local government areas of the country.
He further asserted that under his leadership, the PDP would reclaim power at the centre.
