The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that candidates who registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will write their exams only within the states where they completed their registration.
This update was shared on Tuesday in Abuja, where the board explained that while some students took the mock exam outside their registered states, this will not apply to the main UTME starting on April 25.
The situation during the mock test was due to limited availability of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
In cases where nearby centres were filled up, some candidates were moved to other locations close to their state, like being sent from Abuja to centres in Nasarawa.
JAMB confirmed that all approved CBT centres will be ready for the main UTME, and candidates will not be moved outside their state of registration.
The board also mentioned that early registration affects how close a candidate’s exam centre will be.
When nearby centres are full, students may be placed at any other available centre within their state.
JAMB admitted that a few challenges came up during the mock test, especially due to the new changes introduced to improve how the exam is conducted.
These challenges were expected, and the board expressed regret over any difficulties faced by candidates.
The mock exam, according to JAMB, is a way to test new processes and also help students get used to the exam format.
It helps the board correct any issues before the main test and gives students a chance to understand how the CBT system works.
The board is encouraging candidates to stay focused and continue preparing, assuring them that all efforts are being made to give them a smooth experience during the main exam.
