Suspended Commissioner for Youth Development in Rivers State, Chisom Gbali, dismissed reports of a planned protest in Port Harcourt.
Speaking in an interview, Gbali said there is no unrest in the state and described the environment as peaceful.
The statement followed claims that a protest might be brewing in the state capital.
Gbali, however, said the people have remained calm and continue to show support for the current administration led by Governor Sim Fubara.
According to him, there is no reason to believe a protest is happening, as he would have been informed in his role as the coordinator of all youth groups under the ministry.
He explained that if there were any plans for a protest, he would have known because all youth-related matters fall under his ministry, even though he is currently suspended.
Gbali stated that the ministry remains active with senior staff managing day-to-day operations, and he still receives updates on what goes on.
Despite not being in office, he maintained that the ministry has not slowed down and continues to carry out its duties.
Gbali said he is at home due to the suspension, but the work of the ministry is still ongoing through its directors and permanent staff.
He added that government projects are continuing, and the state is not experiencing the kind of tension being reported.
According to him, Rivers residents have chosen to move forward together, and the administration is still getting support from the people.
