Nnamdi Kanu on Tuesday told the Federal High Court in Abuja that he created the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Radio Biafra to defend and support the interests of the Igbo people.
He made this known during a session that formed part of his ongoing trial.
Kanu explained that his main aim for setting up the group and the radio station was to give a voice to the Igbo community.
He told the court that he managed the affairs of the platform himself and did not receive help from anyone.
According to him, he personally handled the broadcasts and controlled the content that was shared through Radio Biafra.
During the hearing, he also rejected claims that IPOB is a secret group.
He told the court that all his broadcasts were made public and could be accessed by anyone on Facebook.
He insisted that nothing about the group’s operations was hidden or private.
In the course of the proceedings, the judge directed that a video showing Kanu’s interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) be played openly in court.
This step is part of the efforts to review details surrounding the charges against him.
