NJC Denies Reports About Kanu’s Release, Return to Kenya

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has denied recent reports suggesting that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been ordered released and sent back to Kenya. The reports, which alleged that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and NJC Chairman, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, issued such directives, have been described as false.

In a statement issued by Kemi Ogedengbe, the NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, the council clarified that there is no truth to the claim. It explained that the CJN has no involvement in Kanu’s ongoing case at the Federal High Court in Abuja and has not made any decision regarding his release or repatriation.

The council also addressed accusations that the CJN wrote a formal letter to the Kenyan government apologizing for Kanu’s arrest and trial, dismissing them as baseless. It clarified that no such letter exists and urged the public to ignore the circulating reports.

The NJC emphasized that the alleged statements attributed to the CJN were fabricated and have no connection to any court proceedings or judgments. Members of the public have been advised to disregard the information and rely only on verified updates concerning Kanu’s case.
