The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a period of sunshine and hazy weather across the country from Saturday to Monday.
According to NAN, in its weather outlook released on Friday, NiMet predicted clear skies with hazy conditions over the northern regions for the entire forecast period, with sunny weather expected on Sunday.
The agency also expects hazy skies with occasional cloud patches over the North-Central regions throughout the period.
In the southern part of the country, NiMet anticipates a hazy atmosphere with cloudy patches in the morning over inland cities. The agency also forecasts localized showers and thunderstorms in parts of coastal cities, especially in Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
Localized thunderstorms are predicted later in the day over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.
On Sunday, NiMet expects slight dust haze over the northern states, with hazy skies and cloud patches over the North-Central region throughout the day.
In the southern regions, inland cities will experience a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine in the morning. Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening in parts of Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Abia, with showers and thunderstorms also forecasted in Lagos, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River during the morning.
For Monday, NiMet forecasts moderate dust haze in the northern regions, with a sunny atmosphere and patchy clouds over North-Central cities in the morning. In the afternoon and evening, localized thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Kogi.
In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is predicted for the morning, followed by localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in parts of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Bayelsa.
NiMet has advised the public to take necessary precautions due to the presence of dust particles in the atmosphere, particularly individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma. The agency also warned of strong winds potentially preceding thunderstorms and encouraged adherence to safety advisories.
Airline operators are advised to obtain specific weather reports from NiMet to plan their flights effectively.
