The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In a weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were expected on Monday morning over parts of Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina States.
Later in the day, rains are expected in Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba.
“Flash floods are possible in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano States during this period,” NiMet warned.
For the North Central region, including Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Nasarawa, the agency forecast morning cloudiness with light to moderate rainfall, cautioning that parts of Plateau State face a high risk of flooding.
In the South, light to moderate rains are anticipated across Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet added that sunny skies with patches of clouds are likely over the northern region on Tuesday, with thunderstorms and rain expected to persist in Adamawa, Taraba, and neighbouring states.
“Central and southern regions will continue to experience moderate rainfall,” it noted.
On Wednesday, the forecast indicates sunshine with thunderstorms in northern states during the morning hours, while cloudy skies and moderate rains are expected over the central region. Southern states such as Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River are likely to experience morning showers followed by moderate to heavy rains later in the day.
The agency advised residents in flood-prone areas to activate emergency plans, avoid driving during heavy downpours, secure loose objects, and take precautions against strong winds and cold nighttime temperatures.
It also urged airline operators to obtain up-to-date weather reports for safe flight planning, while the public was encouraged to visit www.nimet.gov.ng for regular updates.
