A Nigerian woman who was repeatedly denied asylum in the United Kingdom has finally been granted the right to stay after joining the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The 49-year-old arrived in the UK in 2011 and became involved with IPOB in 2017.
Despite previous rejections, a UK upper tribunal ruled in her favor, stating that she could face persecution if she returned to Nigeria.
Nigeria considers IPOB a terrorist group, but the UK does not.
The woman claimed she feared arrest and disappearance upon returning home.
While a lower tribunal had dismissed her claim due to a lack of evidence, the upper tribunal judge overturned the decision.
The ruling sparked criticism from Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philip, who described it as a flawed interpretation of human rights laws.
