The Nigerian Army has initiated an investigation into a viral video that surfaced on social media showing some soldiers expressing dissatisfaction over the food items allegedly supplied to them by military authorities.
The statement, signed by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized that the issue is being taken seriously and assured that the findings of the investigation would be made public once concluded.
The video, which has gained significant traction online and attracted media attention, features unidentified personnel displaying food items while criticizing their quality and quantity.
Reacting to the development, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the authenticity and context of the footage.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede reiterated that the welfare of troops remains a top priority under his leadership, aligning with his command philosophy: “To Consolidate the Transformation of the Nigerian Army Towards Bequeathing a Well Motivated and Combat Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi Agency Environment.”
He also highlighted the recently launched “Soldier First” initiative, which underscores the importance of soldiers’ welfare, including their families’ well-being, dignity, and operational readiness.
The Army urged its personnel to use proper internal channels to raise complaints, warning that airing grievances on unauthorized platforms—particularly regarding operational issues—violates military discipline and ethics.
Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and professionalism, the Nigerian Army assured the public and its personnel that it remains dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of leadership and troop welfare.
