As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 elections, the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe, has voiced strong support for the idea of a female president, citing examples of women in leadership positions globally and locally.
Speaking at the launch of Senator Chris Anyanwu’s autobiography, Bold Leap, in Abuja, Achebe reflected on the achievements of female leaders, such as the United Kingdom’s history of electing three female prime ministers and Nigeria’s own Dame Virginia Etiaba, who served briefly as governor of Anambra State.
The monarch called for a shift in leadership priorities, urging Nigerians to focus on national progress rather than personal or sectional interests.
He praised women like Senator Anyanwu for their determination and capacity to bring about meaningful change.
Achebe emphasized the need for decisive action to address the nation’s challenges and advocated for inclusive governance to reshape Nigeria’s future.
