A newly inducted Nigerian lawyer, Ajewole Dare Isaac, has been abducted by gunmen just days after he was called to the Bar in Abuja, sparking anxiety among his family and colleagues.
Isaac, who was among the 942 new wigs admitted to the Nigerian Bar at the November 2025 Call to Bar ceremony, was kidnapped last week while travelling from Abuja to Ekiti State.
A source familiar with the incident told Starnews on Wednesday that the young lawyer was attacked along the highway shortly after leaving the capital.
“He barely survived law school. How will he pay ransom?” the source lamented. “This man that could barely feed in law school was kidnapped last week on his way to Ekiti after his Call to Bar.”
Isaac’s abduction has thrown his family into distress as they continue to fear for his safety. It remains unclear whether his captors have made contact or demanded a ransom.
The incident occurred barely a week after the Chairman of the Body of Benchers and former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, charged newly enrolled lawyers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and discipline as they begin their legal careers.
At the Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja, Justice Ariwoola reminded the 942 new wigs that the legal profession is rooted in public trust and ethical conduct, urging them to remain steadfast in service despite the nation’s growing insecurity.
Meanwhile, colleagues and other new lawyers have expressed shock that a young graduate who just celebrated his induction into the profession has become a victim of the country’s worsening kidnapping crisis.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor the family has issued an official statement on the incident.
