The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and other relevant stakeholders, has received 150 Nigerian returnees from Agadez, Niger Republic.
According to a statement released on Friday via NEMA’s official X handle, the returnees arrived at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Thursday at about 5:20 a.m. aboard a chartered flight.
The agency said the exercise was part of the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) initiative jointly supported by the IOM and the Federal Government of Nigeria to facilitate the safe return and reintegration of Nigerians stranded abroad.
Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) carried out biometric registration and documentation to ensure proper profiling of all returnees. They were later transported to Bizare Hotel Luxury Apartments for temporary accommodation and further assessment.
NEMA stated that the group comprised 88 adult males, 32 adult females, 14 male children, and 16 female children, all of whom received humanitarian assistance upon arrival.
The agency added that the returnees were provided with food, potable water, medical care, ambulance services, and other logistics support to ease their reintegration process.
NEMA emphasized that the collaborative efforts of the IOM, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and other partners ensured that the reception exercise was “well-coordinated, efficient, and centered on the dignity and welfare of all returnees.”
The Federal Government, through NEMA, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of all Nigerian citizens stranded in foreign countries.
