The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) will pay 10,000 youths from the region N50,000 every month.
The payment is part of its one-year Youth Internship Scheme, which provides practical skills training in different organisations.
The NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thomson-Wakama, said the initiative aims to support youth empowerment in the region.
She confirmed that the selection process had been completed successfully.
According to her, those chosen will be placed in organisations where they will receive the stipend.
She also mentioned that the high number of applicants showed the determination of young people in the region.
To ensure fairness, the NDDC has partnered with KPMG to improve governance.
Thomson-Wakama said the consulting firm has prepared a Governance Advisory Report to help the commission strengthen its policies.
