The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has suspended all self-collection sales of petroleum products at its depot, with effect from Thursday, September 18, 2025.
In a memo signed by the refinery’s Group Commercial Operations Department and obtained by reporters on Friday, the company said the decision was taken to improve operational efficiency, curb diversion of products, and promote wider adoption of its Free Delivery Scheme, which ensures direct supply of fuel to registered retail outlets.
“Effective September 18, 2025, all gantry self-collection sales are suspended. Only registered marketers under the Free Delivery Scheme will be serviced. Payments made by unregistered marketers will be rejected,” the statement read in part.
The refinery explained that the move is also aimed at halting sales to unregistered marketers, whether they purchase directly or indirectly through other dealers.
This latest directive comes barely two months after the company suspended its discounted fuel scheme following reports that some marketers were diverting products using third-party Authority to Collect (ATC) documents. At the time, the refinery announced that it would roll out logistics improvements, including CNG-powered tankers and a nationwide delivery system, to strengthen transparency in product distribution.
Industry analysts say the measure could help sanitize the downstream oil sector, reducing leakages and ensuring accountability in product allocation. However, they caution that smaller, unregistered marketers may face supply challenges unless they comply with registration requirements or adopt the Free Delivery system.
Consumers are expected to benefit from improved pricing stability and direct deliveries, though experts warn that effective monitoring and coordination of the delivery scheme will be crucial to its success.
