Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central has resumed plenary at the National Assembly after serving a six-month suspension imposed by the Senate.
Her return came after the Upper Chamber resumed from a ten-week recess, following a leadership decision to allow her back into the chamber. The senator had earlier described her suspension as illegal and maintained that she would not apologise as demanded by the Senate.
Speaking with journalists at her office, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted she would not apologise for what she termed an injustice, alleging that the document recommending her suspension was fraudulent. She argued that the Senate’s action was an abuse of process and vowed to continue standing for transparency and fairness.
The lawmaker expressed gratitude to her supporters, legal team, women’s groups, and constituents for standing by her throughout the period of her suspension. She said her reinstatement was a victory for democracy and accountability in the legislature.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March after a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat arrangements, but her colleagues later agreed to lift the suspension to restore unity within the Senate.
