The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit and unregistered goods valued at over N47 million during a raid at the Ibrahim Babangida International Market in Suleja, Niger State.
The agency confirmed that the operation led to the sealing of a warehouse operated by one Alhaji Ahmed. The facility was reportedly stocked with large quantities of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in 25kg bags — a product banned from large-scale importation in Nigeria due to health and regulatory concerns.
In a post shared on its official X account, NAFDAC stated that various unregistered products, including fake oral care items and banned spaghetti brands, were among those seized. Items confiscated include adulterated versions of well-known toothpaste such as counterfeit Oral-B, Bamboo Charcoal, and fake labels like ‘Crogate’, ‘Cloguide’, and imitation ‘Colgate’.
The agency added that several shops within the market are now under investigation to verify their compliance status.
NAFDAC advised consumers to avoid repackaged MSG and any food additive without proper labeling, such as a valid NAFDAC registration number, batch number, and manufacturing details.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health by removing substandard and unsafe products from circulation and warned that similar enforcement actions would continue across Nigeria.
