The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukorede Keisha, who was earlier suspended, has been called back to her role.
The decision to recall her came after the Minister of Works, David Umahi, reviewed the events that led to her suspension.
The issue began when Keisha closed the Independence Bridge in Lagos without following proper communication channels.
According to the Minister, she did not inform the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary or him before taking action, especially given that it was an emergency.
This led to her temporary suspension while the Ministry investigated the situation.
Umahi explained that the closure of the bridge should have been officially reported in writing and also shared through faster means like WhatsApp, considering the urgency.
However, Keisha did not do that, which raised concerns within the Ministry.
During the investigation, Keisha provided details and photos showing that the bridge had a wide crack at the time she shut it down.
Her report suggested that if the bridge had remained open, it could have caused major accidents, possibly leading to loss of lives.
After reviewing the situation and the evidence she submitted, the Ministry agreed that closing the bridge was the right decision based on safety.
Although the communication process was not followed properly, her quick response helped prevent a dangerous situation.
As a result, the Ministry decided to forgive the mistake and allow her to return to work.
Keisha has since resumed her duties as the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos.
