Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has picked Deputy Commissioner of Police, Olamitisoji Akinbamilayo, to lead the Enugu State Forest Guard.
The appointment was made known on Friday through a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia.
Mbah also chose retired Colonel Dan Didiugwu to serve as Chairman of the Forest Guard team.
While Akinbamilayo’s appointment takes effect right away, Didiugwu’s role still depends on the approval of the Enugu State House of Assembly.
The announcement explained that these appointments are meant to boost the protection of lives, properties, and forest areas within the state.
The governor is working to improve the state’s security system, especially in areas affected by illegal activities.
Communities in Enugu, especially those near the borders with Benue and Kogi, have recently come under attack by suspected herders. The new leadership is expected to help address these rising threats.
