Mass Defection: Over 40,000 Dump Opposition for APC in Katsina

On Tuesday, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, welcomed over 40,000 former members of opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the state.

According to Politics Nigeria, the new members, who were formally received at the State Government House, joined the ruling party, signaling a major realignment of political allegiances in the region.

Governor Radda, in his address, stressed the importance of ensuring the smooth integration of the defectors into the APC’s activities, calling for inclusivity at all levels of the party. He commended the defectors for their decision, saying their shift would contribute positively to the state’s development goals.

Leading the group of defectors were Yakubu Idris Dan Chafa and Hassan Suleiman Rawayau, both former Deputy Speakers of the State House of Assembly. Other notable defectors included Isah Hamisu Dandume of the All Peoples Party (APP), Musa Gafai, Chairman of Gafai Communication and former PDP House of Representatives aspirant, as well as several former legislators and local government leaders.

Governor Radda’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ya’u Umar Gwajo Gwajo, noted that the defectors came from various political backgrounds.

In a statement on behalf of the group, former PDP Chairman Rabiu Gambo Bakori cited internal party conflicts and Governor Radda’s 2023 election victory as key factors influencing their decision to join the APC.
