Man Bags 8 Months for Stealing N830,000 Fabrics

A 33-year-old man, Salisu Abubakar, was sentenced to eight months in prison by a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to stealing wrappers valued at N830,000.

The presiding magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, offered Abubakar an alternative of paying a fine of N50,000 in place of serving the prison sentence.

While delivering the verdict, Magistrate Emmanuel warned Abubakar against future criminal activities and instructed that the stolen items be returned to their rightful owner.

Abubakar had earlier admitted to the charges against him. Following his plea, the prosecutor, Chidi Leo, requested that the case be handled summarily under Section 286(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

According to the prosecutor, the crime occurred on April 18 at Ungwan Rimi Road, Kaduna, when Abubakar, alongside two accomplices who remain at large, unlawfully entered a shop belonging to Rabiu Nasir and made away with the fabrics. Abubakar was apprehended with the stolen goods, while his accomplices managed to escape.
