A man identified as Ogoro Miffy has accused the Delta State Police Command of turning his stolen vehicle into a patrol car.
In a viral video making the rounds on social media, Miffy recounted that his car was stolen in 2015 while attending a church service.
He said he reported the incident at the Ekpan Divisional Police Station and also printed and circulated notices about the missing vehicle.
“After the car got stolen, they told me to go print fliers and distribute them. I did all that,” he said in pidgin.
To his surprise, Miffy claimed he saw the same car two years later—this time being used as a police patrol vehicle by the same division where he had filed the report.
“I discovered my car was with the police in Ekpan. They had repainted and converted it into their own patrol vehicle,” he said, showing an image of the car marked with police insignia.
He explained that the matter was taken to court, and in July 2018, a High Court ruled in his favor, awarding him N10 million in damages. However, the police reportedly appealed the judgment and have yet to comply with the court’s ruling.
“They took advantage of me because I have no one to fight for me,” he lamented. “That car was how I survived. Now I’m struggling. I need help.”
In response, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright, stated that preliminary checks showed the vehicle in question was not at the Ekpan Police Station.
“From my findings, the car is not at Ekpan. But 2015 to 2017 is a long time ago,” Edafe wrote, adding that Miffy should contact him directly to assist in ongoing investigations.
