Makinde swears in elected LG chairmen

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday, swore in the newly elected Local Government Chairmen and their vices across the 33 council areas of the state, warning that there is no room for excuses for them to fail.

Recall that the Local Government election was conducted in the state on April 27, 2024, by the state Independent Electoral Commission, and the People’s Democratic Party declared all the councils.

Makinde, who was represented by his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, at the programme, held at the State House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, urged them “to prioritize the needs and aspirations of people with a view to delivering good governance.

“I want to remind you all to bear in mind that upholding the rule of law is key to democracy.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Segun Olayiwola, also advised them to work assiduously with an unwavering commitment to building a more virile local government devoid of acrimony or rancor towards building a better future for all citizens of the pacesetter’s state.

He, therefore, appreciated the Makinde for his unwavering commitment and vision to make the state stand head high amongst the comity of nations to compete favourably with its peers all over the world.
