Salihu Lukman, a former North-West Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said he was not appointed to lead the secretariat of a new political coalition reportedly formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Lukman also denied claims that the coalition has picked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform.
The coalition, which was formed in March 2025 and is reportedly led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is said to include politicians who have left the ruling APC.
There had been reports that the coalition had agreed to work under the ADC ahead of the next presidential race.
This move, according to reports, was meant to show a united front against President Tinubu.
Lukman, however, responded on Thursday saying the claims were not true.
He said the coalition had not decided on any political platform yet and that discussions among its members were still ongoing.
He also dismissed a report by a national newspaper that named him as the head of the coalition’s secretariat.
He explained that while talks were progressing among members of the coalition, no final decisions had been reached.
He asked Nigerians to ignore the report, calling it incorrect and misleading.
According to him, the public will be informed once any agreement is made official by the coalition leaders.
