Ikoro-Ekiti, the headquarters of the newly created Irede Local Council Development Area in Ekiti State has expressed its gratitude to the governor of the State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for fulfilling his promise of bringing governance closer to the people.

The community, in a statement by the President, Ikoro Progressive Union (IPU), the umbrella body of the sons and daughters of the town at home and in the Diaspora, Dr. Sehinde Benson said; “Governor Kayode Fayemi has once again demonstrated the fact that he listens to the yearnings of the people and is committed to the delivery of dividends of democracy to all.”

While assuring the determination of the community to ensure the successful take off of the new LCDA, as well as the readiness of the community to facilitate its socioeconomic sustainability, development and growth, the IPU also rejoices with all the communities that make up the new Irede LCDA.

Benson said; “We want to also use this opportunity to rejoice with all the member communities; Ipoti, Ejiyan, Odo-Owa, Ilukuno and Owa communities for this great development at this particular time. Though, the headquarter is sited at Ikoro-Ekiti, the LCDA belongs to all of us. This is the time to consolidate on our efforts to ensure that the good purpose of the creation is achieved.”

Emphasising the economic viability of the new LCDA, Benson said; “the area has the wherewithal to make the new LCDA economically viable, in fact, we are ready to set the pace for others in this regard. It should not be forgotten that the area’s contributions to the economic development of the state has always been very significant. Since the era of the defunct western region, when cocoa was the mainstay of the economy and till today, the area has never looked back in expanding the state’s IGR, through commercial agriculture, trade and commerce, not to talk of its vast human resources who are holding sway in diverse areas of the society.”

It will be recalled that until the creation of the new LCDA; Ikoro-Ekiti, one of the oldest towns in Ekiti land, was a prominent town in the Ijero Local Government area of Ekiti State. Last week, the town was announced by the state government as the headquarters of Irede LCDA, one of the 19 new LCDAs created by the government to deepen democratic governance and bring it closer to the people.
