Lassa Fever Claims 12 Lives in Ondo

At least 12 people have died from Lassa fever in Ondo State, with 112 confirmed cases and 353 suspected infections.

The Acting Statistician-General of Ondo State, Olusola Ajayi, disclosed this in Akure on Tuesday while speaking to workers of the state’s Waste Management Authority.

He called for collaboration between the agency and health officials to maintain a cleaner environment and prevent further spread of the disease.

The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, also confirmed that close to 400 suspected cases have been recorded since the outbreak.

He announced the establishment of a Lassa fever diagnostic center in the state, supported by the Federal Government, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria.

He assured that the state government is making efforts to ensure the laboratory functions effectively and works with relevant agencies to reduce fatalities.
