The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported a total of 871 confirmed cases of Lassa fever with 162 deaths recorded across the country in 2025.
According to the agency’s latest situation report for Week 35 (25th – 31st August 2025), 91 per cent of the confirmed cases were recorded in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi States.
The report further indicated that Nigeria’s Case Fatality Ratio (CFR) currently stands at 18.6 per cent, which is higher than the 17.1 per cent reported during the same period in 2024.
The Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, in the report, noted that there were 10 new confirmed cases in Week 35, detected in Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, and Taraba States. This marks a sharp rise compared to the three cases recorded in Week 34.
NCDC said it remains committed to strengthening surveillance, case management, and community awareness to curb the spread of the disease.
