The Lagos State Government has denied claims by former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, that it was behind the demolition of a property allegedly owned by his brother in the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said neither the Lagos State Building Control Agency nor any other government agency was involved in the demolition.
He explained that Dr Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, the Special Adviser overseeing LASBCA, had confirmed the agency’s non-involvement. Omotoso described Obi’s claims as baseless and disturbing, urging the public to disregard the allegations.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the rule of law, warning that any individual or group involved in unlawful demolitions would be brought to justice.
To uncover the facts, the government has directed the Office of Urban Development to initiate a full investigation through LASBCA. Omotoso assured residents that the state remains open and committed to their safety and well-being.
