Nine surveyors who were kidnapped in the Ilu Abo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom. They were abducted last Tuesday while working at a site when armed men took them away.
The kidnappers initially demanded N100 million for their release, causing panic among residents. Concerned about the situation, some market women protested at the governor’s office, urging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene.
After negotiations, the victims were finally released on Tuesday night following a ransom payment of N20 million. A relative of one of the surveyors, Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, confirmed their freedom. He stated that the abducted individuals were taken to a hospital for medical attention, and some have already reunited with their families.
Efforts to get a statement from the state police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, were unsuccessful, as she had not responded to inquiries at the time of this report.
