Lecturers at Kaduna State University (KASU), represented by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have issued a warning about potentially resuming industrial action due to unresolved issues with the state government.
The union made the announcement in a statement on Thursday, which was signed by Peter Adamu, the chairman of ASUU KASU.
Earlier, the union had called off an indefinite strike that began on February 18, 2025, after six days, following some progress in discussions. However, Adamu claimed that the state government had canceled two scheduled meetings with ASUU, raising doubts about the government’s commitment to resolving the outstanding issues.
The unresolved matters include unpaid salaries from May to September 2022, unfulfilled SIWES supervision allowances, unpaid earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, pension contributions, life assurance/death benefits, wage awards, salary adjustments, and the demand for financial autonomy.
According to Adamu, the government’s failure to follow through on agreements has led the union to consider restarting the strike. He accused the state of reverting to previous unfulfilled commitments, which undermined the trust built between both parties.
Adamu called for urgent intervention from Governor Uba Sani and other stakeholders to prevent further disruption and to avoid pushing the university into deeper crisis. He urged prompt action to resolve the lecturers’ grievances and restore stability to the academic environment.
