Kano Police Arrest 11 Students Over Death of Schoolmates

The Kano State Police Command has taken 11 students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, into custody following the death of two of their fellow students.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests on Thursday, noting that investigations are currently underway to determine the level of involvement of each suspect in the tragic incident.

“We have arrested 11 students in connection with the case. An investigation is ongoing to establish their individual roles,” Haruna stated.

He assured that the command is committed to a thorough investigation and will ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted.

In response to the incident, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has directed a full-scale probe into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. This was communicated during an official visit to the school on Wednesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad.

The victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked by fellow students using sharp, locally made metal objects commonly referred to as “Gwale-Gwale.”
