The Kano State Government has instructed the Bichi Emirate Council to suspend the scheduled turbaning ceremony of Salisu Ado Bayero, appointed as a district head.
The younger brother of the Bichi Emir was set to be turbaned on March 1, following an announcement made by the Emirate on February 15.
The directive to suspend the ceremony came through a letter from the Ministry for Local Government, citing “certain exigencies at the moment.”
The letter, penned by the Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim M Kabara, on behalf of Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, emphasized the government’s decision to halt the proceedings initially approved by the Emirate.
Ibrahim Yakasai, the Secretary of the Emirate Council, confirmed the development, directing inquiries back to the Ministry for Local Government.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba, clarified that the government’s action follows the standard procedure, highlighting the necessity for emirates to seek official clearance before such ceremonies.
Garba reassured that similar directives have been issued to other emirates, underlining the administration’s commitment to respecting royal protocols and traditions.
This suspension occured amidst ongoing debates and calls from various groups regarding the status of new emirates in Kano State and the potential reinstatement of the deposed Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.
